Red Star Belgrade 0 – 1 Arsenal: Giroud Late Stunner secures win
It took Arsenal 85 minutes to score Serbian side Red Star Belgrade. Olivier Giroud displayed his knack for scoring spectacular goals with an improvised overhead kick to give Arsenal the win against a team that ended the game with ten men. The Frenchman’s Scorpion kick last season is one of the nominees of this years Puskas Award and he once again delivered another great goal.
In a forgettable evening of football, Walcott saw his goal bound effort saved by the feet of Milan Borjan.
Then Richmond Boakye was denied a penalty kick, and a corner kick was awarded instead. From the resulting corner, his header hit the post.
Red Star Belgrade came close again when Nemanja Radonjic tested Petr Cech.
Then teenager, Reiss Nelson tested Red Star keeper who parried at the near post.
Nenad Krsticic and Randonjic tested Cech again as Red Star Belgrade emphasized their intentions in the match.
The fairy tale ended when Rodic received a second yellow for a tackle on Francis Coquelin.
Giroud Punishes Red Star Belgrade
Then the goal came in the 85th minute. Wilshere and Walcott combined to devastating effect, after exchanging a couple of flicked passes, Walcott released Giroud who made no mistake with a sumptuous overhead kick.
The match ended 1-0 in favour of Arsenal.
